Get ready for a lifestyle change.
As the summer begins, we’re likely heading to air-conditioned shopping centres for a respite from the summer heat and a last chance at buying that perfect gift for the family.
The rest of us are headed for the beaches for a refreshing dunk. From Mooloolaba to Surfer’s Paradise, Tweed heads Caboolture, Ipswich to Toowoomba, the Christmas season sees the motorways filled with holiday-goers searching out a great place for a dip.
How many of us have a pool?
According to the ABS, in October 2009, there were 280,500 Queensland households with a private swimming pool. This means 17% of Aussies are staying within the comfort of their homes to cool down.
Is there a difference – above ground or below ground?
Not really. The number of households with swimming pools has also been increasing steadily. In-ground pools made up the majority of Australian pools, with 9.8% of households having an in-ground pool and 2.0% of households having an above-ground swimming pool. “The Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, and suburban Brisbane regions are especially fans of houses with pools,” says Chris of CMA Constructions. “It adds to the holiday home feel.”
Really though it comes down to personal preference.
What’s better, salt or chlorine?
Saltwater pools also have chlorine in them, but the chlorine comes from the salt – NaCl2. A saltwater generator converts the salt so that it can sanitise water for algae, & bacteria.
Chlorine pools do not require an expensive electrical generator, so are cheaper. A simple floating chlorine tablet dispenser will maintain a chlorine level to kill bacteria and algae.
What about council regulations?
Each region has its own council pool regulations. This is something you need to check with your local council and make sure that you’re complying with any pool safety laws.
A pool can sit by the house, in the garden, or within a deck and add to the design of any home. A lifestyle feature for anyone with a family who loves a refreshing dip, a above ground pool is a perfect addition to your summer.
